Gardening in Fayetteville
Gardeners have a friend in the Cape Fear Region. The region offers a wide range of mircoclimates for growing a variety of plants. It's also home to the Cape Fear Botanical Garden, a flower lovers' paradise, that has become all the more spectacular with the opening a 6,685-square-foot round pavilion designed for weddings, banquets and other special events. The structure has a 52-foot-tall conical cupola ceiling made of natural pine.

From big game to big bass, the Cape Fear region is covered. Just beyond the city limits - and within the confines of Fort Bragg - are vast woodlands that hold deer, bears, wild turkeys, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits and more. Region lakes also offer sunfish, crappie, catfish and bass. And the Cape Fear River is home to some of the state's largest catfish, including the N.C.-record 78-pound flathead landed by Fayetteville resident Brian Newberger in 2005.
