These are the 10 largest private employers in Cumberland County.
Cape Fear Valley Health System has 4,700 employees. The hospital converted from a publicly owned hospital to a private, nonprofit organization in 2006. It includes Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital and Southeastern Regional Rehabilitation Center. In June, Cape Fear Valley contracted with the prestigious Cleveland Clinic to perform all heart surgeries at the medical center.
Wal-Mart employs about 3,800 people at its five stores and one Sam’s Club in Cumberland County, along with its distribution center in Hope Mills.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has about 2,750 employees at its Fayetteville plant off Ramsey Street. The plant manufactures tires, including the Kelly brand.
Food Lion has 17 grocery stores in the county that employ 875 people.
AT&T Mobility, formerly Cingular Wireless, employs more than 850 workers at the company’s largest call center on Owen Drive.
Purolator Filters NA has about 825 employees at its plant on Natal Road. Owned by two German companies, Bosch and Mann+Hummel, the plant makes oil, air, fuel and cabin filters.
M.J. Soffe has 721 employees at a plant off U.S. 301. Owned by Delta Apparel Inc. of Duluth, Ga., the company manufactures sportswear. Its sewing plant in Rowland employs 157.
Eaton Corp. has 650 workers at its plant on Doc Bennett Road, where it makes industrial motor controls.
DuPont has about 530 employees at its plants off N.C.87 near the Cumberland-Bladen county line and another facility on Cedar Creek Road.
Fayetteville Publishing Co. has about 450 employees and publishes The Fayetteville Observer, among other publications.
