Formed and directed by Alan Porter, the 50-member choir that is the Cumberland Oratorio Singers has become a musical and cultural staple in the community since its inception in 1991.
Originally formed to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the group performs four to five times a year at Reeves Auditorium on the campus of Methodist University.
Porter, a former music professor at Methodist, focuses the group's performances on classical selections, such as Mozart's "Great Mass in C Minor" or Handel's "Messiah."
Last season, the group performed "Holocaust Cantata: Songs from the Camps," by Donald McCullough.
