Day in the Life: Transplant survivor: I am God's walking miracle

Alice Miller isn't afraid to advertise her beliefs.

"Got Jesus," reads her pink T-shirt, the first she wears after laundry day.

One of her other favorites reads "God is good all the time" on the front.

The back reads "All the time God is good."

"I try to wear the shirts to tell people how I feel," said Miller, who moved to Laurel Hills four months ago. "It is only by the grace of God that I'm here."

Miller, 50, received a liver liver transplant on June 1, 2007.

Her liver was severely damaged 26 years ago when she gave birth to her son in a Texas hospital.

Miller said she had to have a blood transfusion during delivery.

After years of deteriorating health - and initially not knowing why - the problem was diagnosed and Miller was put on the liver transplant waiting list. She was told her name would come up in about seven years.

"I got so sick, I was taken off the list," Miller said.

That's when she believes a miracle happened.

She was an ICU patient at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.

A liver became available when a man died in an automobile wreck.

Her husband and the rest of Miller's family were told it was an imperfect liver but it was their last hope.

More than two years later, Miller said she drives to Florida every six weeks for check-ups. The reports have been good.

"I am God's walking miracle. That's for sure," Miller said.
