Day in the Life: Clerk glad to call Scotland home
Roger Brooks has lived in Scotland County his entire life, and that's just fine with him.
"Ain't no place like home," said Brooks, who currently works as a desk clerk at the Scotland Inn.
But desk clerk is just one of the many hats Brooks has worn throughout his long tenure in Laurinburg.
He also served as chief deputy of the Scotland County Sheriff's Office, worked with the county's emergency management service and owned a skating rink and teen night club.
For about 25 years, Brooks also coached baseball for the county's Parks and Recreation Department and the local Optimist Club.
That, he said, is probably his greatest job - one he'd still be doing today if it weren't so exhausting.
"I still would do it today, if I had to do it," he said.
