Bragg brass move up the ranks

The people who wear stars on their shoulders at Fort Bragg usually are on their way to bigger and better things.

Ann E. Dunwoody, who commanded 1st Corps Support Command as a brigadier general, became the U.S. military's first female four-star general.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, was a three-star general in charge of Joint Special Operations Command.

Gen. David Petraeus, who was 18th Airborne Corps chief of staff as a one-star general, is in charge of all U.S. forces in the Middle East.

Peter Schoomaker, who commanded U.S. Army Special Operations Command as a lieutenant general, became Army chief of staff.

And Hugh Shelton, the former Fort Bragg and 18th Airborne Corps commander, went on to become chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
