Botanical Garden
Once newcomers to the Cape Fear region get unpacked, one of the first things they want to do is start digging in the yard.
Fayetteville and the Sandhills area will support a wide variety of garden plants and crops. Perhaps the best place to see all of them - and to get some advice for your own gardening plans - is the Cape Fear Botanical Garden.
Over the past 20 years, the garden has become a blossoming year-round gateway to the community. Nestled off Eastern Boulevard, where Cross Creek meets the Cape Fear River, the garden offers 79 acres of scenery and solitude.
It features gardens within gardens, including thousands of camellias, day lilies and hostas. Different species of dogwood and native flowers offer visitors a chance to see just what can thrive in our area.
It's a kid-friendly place, unlike some formal gardens. In addition, regularly scheduled workshops offer tips for newcomers.
The garden is in the middle of upgrades this summer. In the near future, improved meeting facilities and a visitor's pavilion will enhance its natural beauty.
